42 Stars
A very rare cotton flag from 1890. 42 star “dancing stars” with the tilted stars typical of the era. The history of the 42-star flag is that it was never officially adopted by the U.S. government. In November 1889, Washington was admitted to the Union as the 42nd state. Manufacturers began making the 42-star flag in 1889 so that it would be ready for the office update of new statehoods the following July 4, 1890. However, because Idaho was admitted on July 3, 1890 - the 42 star flag was bypassed and never used officially. This flag has patina and wear from age, including minor stains and fraying along the edges. Measures 18 x 22 inches including the frame. Preserved under UV protective, reduced glare glass with acid-free matting. Measures 18 x 22 inches including the frame.
